- to provide each individual resident with the basis for the development and re-evaluation of self, taking into account his or her physical, emotional, social, spiritual, and academic competence.

- to ensure the sensitivity to the child’s verbal and non-verbal messages, to provide a nurturing home where dignity and respect are forefront of the operation.

- we acknowledge each resident’s individuality and operate in a nurturing, empathetic and consistent approach.

- we recognize that negative feelings exist before negative acts, the basic rule of human behaviour.  We continuously seek the “cause” of the resident’s behaviour and will deal with any inappropriate behaviour in a consistent and competent manner.

- the resident is involved in his/her short and long term goals taking into account his/her present living situation within the home, school situation, peer group, community involvement, legal obligations and family situation.

- we gently guide our residents to attainable goals and believe that each resident must be actively involved in his/her plan of care. We believe that low self-esteem is tied to impossible demands on self.  Each resident is encouraged to build on his/her capabilities and work on his/her needs.

- milieu and reality therapy is the focus of our approach with emphasis placed on family involvement and participation where feasible.  Staff involvement and participation play an integral role in our program. Our staff believe in our philosophy and promote in each resident the sense of teamwork, instilling responsibility and independence in the resident.
